Yesterday I posted the death and obituary of Jon-Erik Beckjord.

Later that evening, a person by the name of Jeff Teagle had put some doubt into that, but now has confirmed EB as people had come to call him has certainly passed on.

While some are rejoicing, I am not. Was he a pain to many, did many people have some over the top experiences with him? Hell yes. But in retrospect, I remember watch video on the evening of September 11th, 2001 of some Arab countries which people were celebrating in the streets over the attacks.

When people rejoice publicly over the painful cancerous death, of someone, I find it distasteful. My grandfather died from prostate cancer. My father died of metastasized cancer from a malignant tumor on his neck which spread to his lungs and brain. My uncle beat prostate cancer but was over-radiated and several years later passed away of Leukemia.

EB the Final Years

Did I have my share of problems with EB. At times. Was I a friend of his? No. But for me, I do feel saddened. Never again will we see written by the originator the word, "BONK!"

Or hear some of the outlandish things he said in the past. "Poop everywhere...poop. And I've stepped in it, around it...over it..." "Weird, weird, weird."

Yes at times I was a victim of his outrage and web chronicles. Did I take it personally? No. People have to understand, people all have their places. Some of the time are were here to raise a ruckus or two. I've poked fun at him too on the radio show. But we will now be shy a guest for an entertaining session.

His arrogance too, will not be missed by many, but occasionally something he would say could be profound, if you could parse your personal feelings out of it, "Controversy is good, it keeps people talking." I would also add going to war sometimes too.

Last year there was the Erik Beckjord - Tara Hauki affair that struck a lot of people as entertaining. What happened that day will go down in the Bigfoot books, as the great unknown.

Let's not forget Sean Forker, who has shown remorse publicly, was probably the only person in the world who actually got under EB's skin to hang up on live radio.

I know when he was on Squatchdetective Radio, it was a hoot and very enjoyable, because it was fun having someone so animated, and a little off the wall. It was stressful because of the "oh shit" factor involved with having someone so controversial, but it was fun and entertaining and that trumped our usual course of being educational.

What does the Beckjord Legacy mean to me?

Well at one time EB was a flesh and blood believer. Somewhere between here and there, I believe he got so frustrated, when he felt defeated and that his genius (as he was a confirmed member of MENSA) could not solve the mystery, it made him a little bats. Okay, a lot bats. And thus started down the path of the remaining years of his life as we've come to know him for. So if there is one thing I can take away from it, is never let frustration rule the day or guide you. Not only in Sasquatchery, but life in general.

In summation:

The best thing any human can do, is take the best lessons learned from someone's life, and learn from it themselves so they dare not repeat the mistakes of another.
